Farmer (Fannie Merritt) is born in Boston.
February 23, 1857
Fannie Farmer grows up in Medford, and subsequently moves to Boston, Ives at 87 West Rutland Square., and graduates from the Boston Cooking-School in 1889. She becomes the school’s director in 1991, publishes an extremely successful cookbook in 1896,* and starts her own school in 1902, and subsequently allows the Fanny Farmer Candy Company to use an approximation of her name as long as it is spelled differently. Farmer dies in Boston on January 15, 1915, is buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery, but because her monthly columns for the Women’s Home Companion were written well in advance, news of her death is kept secret for almost a year.
